Summer Arts Academy Camp Counselor

Area Focus: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Dance, Music
Reports to: Director of Summer Programs

Job Overview

Summer@Walker's Summer Arts Academy counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. Counselors are responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities as they guide campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. Counselors are expected to utilize their knowledge of their particular art focus to educate the campers each day.

Counselor Positions

  1. Visual Arts Counselor: Responsible for the organization and implementation of the instructional program for campers interested in visual arts. Visual arts counselors teach daily classes in the specific areas of painting, drawing, ceramics, clay, digital photography, and more.
  2. Performing Arts Counselors: Responsible for the organization and implementation of the instructional program for campers interested in performing arts. Performing arts counselors teach daily classes in building acting, theatrical and set design skills.
  3. Dance Counselors: Responsible for the organization and implementation of the instructional program for campers interested in dance. Dance instructors teach daily ballet classes, pointe, stretching, partnering, jazz, contemporary dance, and more.
  4. Music Counselors: Responsible for the organization and implementation of the instructional program for campers interested in music. Music counselors teach daily music lessons to a group of campers, preferably voice lessons, guitar lessons, violin lessons, and more.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assure campers are properly supervised at all times
  2. Actively participate in all program areas as assigned
  3. Serve as a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior
  4. Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
  5. Design daily lesson plans for classes
  6. Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
  7. Lead and assist with the teaching of activities
  8. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned

Qualifications

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older
  2. Must be high school graduate
  3. Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR
  4. Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work
  5. Must have an interest in working with children of all age levels
