Global Girls Academy (GGA) Internship

Program Description

The Global Girls Academy at The Ethel Walker School is a 3-week, intensive summer English language and American culture immersion program. Girls from around the world become acclimated to many aspects of learning – and living – in the United States.

The program centers on improving English language skills for all levels, but participants can also take group trips to major U.S. cities such as Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, as well as key historic destinations and major universities.

Adventures in College Applications is offered as a session to help students age 16-18 prepare to enter college. Counselors provide close support for students as they search out colleges of interest, write essays, complete applications, and position themselves for acceptance.

Adventures in Real World Applications a way for students age 12-15 to immerse themselves in American history while building leadership, teamwork, and problem solving skills in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in cooperative settings.

Internship Responsibilities

  • Work with an experienced teacher in one major course (History and/or English) beginning as an observer and eventually teaching lessons independently
  • Observe other teachers in their classes
  • Lead one afternoon sport or activity
  • Chaperone various trips and activities
  • Live in and help supervise dormitories at night and on weekends
  • Supervise meals, free time and other times of the day

Internship Qualifications

  • Applicants must have completed their junior or senior year of college
  • Desired college majors: English, History, Education, foreign languages, ESL, although other majors may be acceptable
  • Successful candidates will be strong communicators, energetic, passionate about working with international students, and a willingness to learn
  • The ability to teach/lead a sport or activity
  • Experience working with adolescents preferred
