Mission Statement

The Ethel Walker School is an independent, college preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades six through 12. Since 1911, The Ethel Walker School has excelled at preparing students to make a difference in the world. Members of this diverse community are dedicated to scholarship, the arts, athletics, wellness, and service. The satisfaction of achievement and joy of friendship are fundamental principles as the School empowers girls to lead with integrity, confidence, courage, and conviction.

The School

  • Located in Simsbury, CT; 175 acre campus, abutting 425 acres of preserved land
  • 20 minutes from Hartford and two hours from New York City and Boston

Signature Programs

  • Learning Immersion. Two weeks of intensive experiential, cross-disciplinary and inquiry-based learning in non-curricular areas of interest or passion
  • Seminar Series. Public Speaking, Personal Finance, Leadership, Computational Thinking, Women’s Health, College & Beyond 
  • Leadership. Student government (Big 7 for US, Little 4 for MS), Cicerones (student tour guides), dorm proctors, orientation leaders, teacher’s assistant positions, volunteer mentoring for Horizons at The Ethel Walker School, team captains, and more

Visual Arts and Music

  • Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Graphic Publication, Photography
  • Music Groups: Two a cappella groups, Bell Choir, Orchestra, African Drumming, Gospel Choir, Rock Band, Choir

Campus Facilities

Recent enhancements include a 23,000 sq. ft. dorm, completed barn renovations, and more than 3.5 acres of turf fields. Construction is underway for the 62,000 sq. ft. Centennial Center, which includes an 8 lane swimming pool, 4 squash courts, 3 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, 2 dance studios, a fitness room, cafe and social space.
