Global Girls Academy
Global Girls Academy at The Ethel Walker School is an intensive summer English language and American culture immersion program for girls ages 12-18 from around the world.
The cost includes ground transportation to and from JFK Airport as well as Hartford's Bradley International Airport, all meals, all books and educational supplies, linens, day trips, overnights trips and excursions to NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, and historic destinations in between. Major Universities along the east coast will also be toured and highlighted.
SSAT, SAT and TOEFL test preparation will be incorporated into the Academy as well as being available in the evenings for an additional cost.

Dates & Cost
Global Girls Academy will be held August 5-27, 2012. Three levels of English language ability are offered: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Session 2
Applications for College is an intensive program designed for students ages 16-18 to help prepare for the the university application process. You will work with a counselor who will guide you through the various areas of the college search process. You will write essays, complete applications, and register for and use various search engines (Naviance and the College Board).
Real World Applications (ages 12-15) is designed to take full advantage of our location in the cradle of American history. Students will gain knowledge of American history and culture through exciting experiences including classroom learning and extensive travel in this historic region. Students will be engaged in daily activities that make them think critically and analytically, on the athletic fields as well as in cooperative settings. Students will also take part in on campus leadership events where they can work on team building and problem solving techniques.
For all ages, Session 2 will also include an exciting one day Applications in Film Making program, which will enable girls to utilize their English language skills they have honed during Session 1: The Academy, to write, produce, record and edit their own films all in time for a Film Festival and awards ceremony at the end of the day. Each student will be given a DVD of the films to take home.
A Typical Day at the Academy
Monday through Thursday at the Academy begin with classes in the morning focusing on American history, English reading comprehension, and descriptive writing followed by a ninety-minute session on a specific skill or topic such as academic etiquette, public speaking, research, expository writing, etc. At noon your American experience becomes experiential with lunch and time for arts and athletics. Free time is given in the afternoon followed by a group dinner discussion where you will taste the diversity of American cuisine! The evenings are set aside for area trips and activities. Before bed, there will be a reflection period every night where girls will contribute to their journal, scrapbooks or blogs and decompress from the day with a dorm meeting.

A Weekend at the Academy
Weekends start early at the Academy! Friday mornings are devoted to preparing for the weekend adventures to Boston, Philadelphia and New York. While each trip day varies, they will typically include the following activities:
