Middle School
As The Ethel Walker School celebrated its 100th birthday in 2011, our Middle School celebrates its own milestones: 20 years of educating adolescent girls, helping them mature as learners, actors, artists, musicians, dancers, athletes, leaders and friends. Since 1990, the Walker’s Middle School has been a safe and caring place where academics come first and girls are the focus, free of the pressures that can exist in larger, co-ed schools.
The primary goals of the Middle School are to develop in our students the skills of:
- Independent and critical thinking
- Clear and concise writing
- Confident public speaking
- Responsible behavior
- Caring collaboration with peers
We achieve these goals within the framework of a traditional program that offers classes in six core academic subjects: math, science, history, English, language (Spanish, Chinese or Latin) and creative arts.
Classes in study skills, organization and wellness, all-school meetings and community service activities are designed to help girls engage with their learning, their peers and their school.
Our Middle School students participate fully in the many traditions of the whole school. Research shows that when adolescent girls feel connected to something larger than themselves, confidence grows and they are better able to discover their strengths and interests. This is a place where your daughter will become the best of what she is and can be.
