Postgraduate Study

Postgraduate study A postgraduate year at The Ethel Walker School is the perfect choice for any girl who wishes to have one more year of preparation prior to entering college or university. This additional year can bolster a girl's maturity, intellectual ability and preparedness for college. An additional year of participation in her favorite sport or activity can help improve her skills and expand her experience, creating more options for participation at the college level.

We offer more than 30 advanced level courses and electives, including Human Anatomy & Physiology, Equine Science, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics, that engage deep thinking and prepare girls for college and beyond. Girls at Walker's find themselves challenged by a rich and broad curriculum that offers a wide variety of classes and electives. At the same time, the School prides itself on the level of care and support we offer our students as they prepare to go to college.

Postgraduate students can take a full load of courses in the 6 different core subjects (including art), or they may choose to focus their studies in an area of special interest or one in which they need more support. Postgraduates arrive at Walker’s with a high school diploma already in hand, so there is a lot of flexibility in choosing courses that appeal to individual interests.

The Walker's Community

Postgraduate studyPostgraduates are considered full members of our senior class and thus enjoy this strong community as well as certain senior privileges. Seniors and postgraduate students live in Cluett Dorm, a unique building that provides a perfect balance of independence and supervision for our older students. Rather than structured study hall each night, seniors and postgraduates in good academic standing have quiet hours in their dorms. They are invited throughout the year to participate in special events with the Head of School and they end their year participating in a series of very special traditions that send our graduates off to college with warm memories of their time at Walker’s.

The Senior Dinner in which an invited faculty member speaks to the seniors recognizing their accomplishments and sharing memories of their year marks the beginning of a week of special events that culminates with a lovely and moving graduation ceremony on the front lawn of Beaver Brook, our main campus building. Postgraduate students receive a special certificate of completion at graduation.
