FAQ

What are the benefits of an all-girls school?

Girls enjoy not just equal opportunity but every opportunity at an all-girls school. Learning takes place center stage without distraction and there is no gender stereotyping in course selection. National data supports that girls school students are more likely to study higher levels of math, science and technology; Walker’s students follow this pattern.

Why does middle school matter so much for girls?

Middle school-age girls are at a unique developmental stage, and their needs are best served by an educational environment designed exclusively for them. They learn skills that are essential for academic success at the secondary school level.

What is the financial aid process?

Financial aid at Walker’s is one part of its long-standing commitments to diversity in all its definitions. The financial aid process is handled through School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS), a part of the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS). Families file online at www.sss.nais.org, and the SSS formula estimates a family’s need based on its income, assets, expenses and liabilities.

Why blend a boarding school with a day school?

Studies show that private schools in general, and boarding schools in particular, offer the most effective educational settings for leadership opportunities, character development, and excellent college preparation. When day students are thoughtfully immersed into a boarding population, the result is a community where all students benefit from regional, national and global perspectives.

Why is Walker’s a meaningful investment in a girl’s education?

Walker's offers an optimal environment that focuses specifically on girls and the way they learn, create, compete and excel. The school has perfected its teaching over a century, and the loyalty and dedication of its alumnae — and their accomplishments — are testament to the lasting value of a Walker's education for women around the world. Now is the best time to invest in your daughter's future.

Why combine a middle school and an upper school?

The relationship between middle and upper school students can be meaningful and empowering, most specifically through formal and informal mentoring programs in place at Walker’s. Whether this mentoring takes place in the classroom, on the field, or at a school-wide event, it benefits both the younger and the older student.
