Advising

We believe that having adult mentors is critical for adolescents. An extensive, supportive advising system has proven fundamental to the success of a student's years at Walker's, where they develop positive relationships with their advisors, who guide them in a variety of ways. The advising system embraces four formal divisions: Faculty Advisor, Housefaculty and Proctors (both described on the Residential Life page), the School Counselor, and College Counselor. The center of this, however, is the faculty advisor.

Faculty Advisor

Each student is assigned a faculty member as her advisor upon arrival at Walker's. The advisor assumes responsibility for looking after each student's progress and development at the school and helps with academic matters, reviews grade reports, and is available for guidance at any time.

Advisees eat lunch with their advisors every Tuesday and sit with their advisors during Morning Meeting on Mondays and Fridays. Additional opportunities exist for the entire advisee group to meet throughout the school year.

Advisors also host and create special events for their advisee group, including:

  • Birthday celebrations
  • Dinner at advisor homes
  • Special outings and activities for the advisee group

The strength of the Walker's Advisor system is truly a hallmark of the School.
