Centennial Trail Dedicated

Date:
10/03/11

One of the highlights of Walker's event-filled Centennial Weekend was the dedication of the Centennial Trail.  This picturesque pathway was created by students enrolled in Outdoor Adventure, an athletic program choice, where students participate in activities such as canoeing, hiking, rock climbing and more.

Outdoor Adventure faculty leaders Rich Prager and John Groff guided students through spring, summer and fall as they cleared brush, leveled rough ground and installed trail markers. The scenic trail is located in the dormitory section of campus, and there are plans to expand it in the future.  At the dedication, Head of Community Service Melody '12 shared how students enjoyed creating the trail.  Prager mentioned that the trail "connects to almost every discipline at Walker's:" science, literature, and the study of all at quiet locations along the path.

Alumna Betsy Rainoff cut the ceremonial ribbon, and, joined by students, faculty, Head of School Bessie Speers and Margaretta '66 and Tom Brokaw, the group enjoyed the first "official" walk on the trail.
