Grounds/General Maintenance Worker

Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Grounds Supervisor and Director of Facilities

The Ethel Walker School has an opening for a general maintenance worker in our Facilities Department. This is a full time, non-exempt position.


  • Perform general grounds maintenance duties including mowing/mulching, athletic field preparation, snow shoveling, snow blowing, snow plowing, garden maintenance, operate grounds equipment, chainsaw work, and fence repairs.
  • Perform varied general maintenance work including framing, painting, carpentry, finish trim, sheetrock, remodeling and construction knowledge; general repair and maintenance work to floors, roofs, walls, stairways, windows, cabinetmaking, lock repair and key maintenance; and other duties as assigned.
  • Able to operate all types of power and hand tools used in carpentry work. 
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the maintenance team and other departments.


  • Physically able to climb on and off of equipment used.
  • Ability to safely operate powered hand tools involving use of both hands and both legs.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry loads such as bags of ice melter, a bale of hay, etc. up to 75 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to think and respond appropriately to requests for assistance by members of the community.
  • Must be able to come in early or work late as needed to respond to weather or other conditions.
  • Must be able to work campus events as needed.
  • Ability to communicate and function as part of a team.
  • Must participate in monthly safety training programs.
  • May be asked to take rotation as designated on-call person after familiarity with campus is achieved.
