Math Teacher

Status: Full Time, Exempt
Reports to: Dean of Faculty & Department Chair

The Ethel Walker School announces a search for a full-time Math Instructor to begin teaching in August 2022. The preferred candidate has a minimum of three years of teaching experience, an advanced degree in the discipline or in education, and the ability to teach the breadth of the Middle and Upper School mathematics curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to fostering a growth mindset, guiding students in becoming creative, patient, and collaborative problem solvers. 

Responsibilities

A highly developed sense of collaboration and a willingness to work with colleagues are required for this position. The successful candidate will show an empathy for and a willingness to work with adolescent girls+ at this phase in their development and bring a commitment to creating a student-centered and culturally responsive classroom. The Ethel Walker School is a boarding school and in addition to teaching math, other responsibilities could include dormitory residence or association and participation in the afternoon program at the School in a manner commensurate with the candidate’s skills. 

Teaching Requirements

  • BA or BS in Math, advanced degree in Math or Education preferred
  • Experience teaching math at the middle and/or high school level
  • Ability to teach upper level classes such as Statistics and Calculus, as well as courses beyond most high school curriculum such as Multivariable Calculus. 
  • Commitment to creating a culturally responsive classroom environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Facility with the use of technology (preferable Apple and iPad) in learning techniques
  • Strong work ethic (timely adherence to deadlines and ability to self motivate)
  • Ability to attend and participate in faculty and department meetings 
  • Capacity to collaborate with colleagues on lesson planning and curriculum development 
  • Commitment to meeting departmental deadlines and goals

Community Requirements

  • Serve as an academic advisor to students
  • Attend required community events including but not limited to evening banquets, concerts, and community dinners
  • Participate in assigned weekend team duties
  • Coach or direct two seasons of a co-curricular
  • Obtain a Public Passenger Endorsement for your driver’s license to drive students to off-campus activities and/or athletic events
  • Exhibit a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
  • Participate in personal and professional development
  • Carry out other duties as assigned
