Spanish Teacher

Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports To: Dean of Faculty & Department Chair

The Ethel Walker School has an opening for a full-time Spanish Teacher beginning in August 2023. The successful candidate will have native or near fluency in Spanish. Candidates must be comfortable or willing to learn how to integrate new technology and culturally relevant pedagogy into the classroom. Experience teaching with Comprehensible Input is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Fluency or near fluency in Spanish is required; additional competency in French and/or Latin preferred.
  • Ability to teach using Comprehensible Input.
  • Ability to teach all levels of Spanish, from beginner to advanced courses in literature and culture in both the Middle School and Upper School.
  • Ability to create a culture of belonging in the classroom environment.
  • A strong sense of community engagement and collegiality.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and assess curriculum within a schoolwide framework.
  • Ability to organize, inspire, and support department colleagues in a variety of programs.
  • Strong ability to clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain active communication with our diverse students, colleagues, and parents.

Responsibilities

A highly developed sense of collaboration and a willingness to work with colleagues is required for this position. This person will work closely with colleagues to make sure the School’s mission and values are being met and will have autonomy in planning lessons and developing units and assessments with the support of the Department Chair. The successful candidate will show an empathy for and a willingness to work with adolescent girls at this phase in their development, and support the full community of a boarding school in the following ways:

  • Serve as an academic advisor to students.
  • Attend required community events including, but not limited to, evening banquets, concerts, performances, and community dinners.
  • Participate in assigned weekend team duties.
  • Coach or assist with two seasons of a co-curricular activity.
  • Obtain a Public Passenger Endorsement for your driver’s license to drive students to off-campus activities and/or athletic events (unless you are medically exempt).
  • Exhibit a high degree of flexibility and adaptability.
  • Participate in personal and professional development.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
