Field Hockey - Varsity
Walker’s field hockey program competes in the Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association (WNEPSFHA), a division of the the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). Walker's is a Class “C” division competitor, and also competes in the prestigious Founders League. League competitors include Choate, Taft, Hotchkiss, Loomis, Westminster, Kent, Kingswood Oxford and Miss Porter's.

Mimi Duran has been head coach since 2007. She brings thirty years of experience to the program, and is committed to creating a program that promotes players' character, leadership, discipline, a desire to excel, and pride in the School. Coach Duran has established a program that challenges the accomplished high school athlete and allows the younger player to learn and thrive.
Walker's has won both the CISAC League and Tournament titles from 2007-2014, was a WNEPSA Class “C” division winner in 2010, 2016 and 2017 and 2018. Coach Duran was inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015 and has been coaching in the United States Field Hockey Association Futures Program since 1995. She has taken athletes to the National Field Hockey Festival since the early 1990s.
Coach Duran says, "I believe that athletes need to work together both on and off the field. We find opportunities to commit ourselves as a team not only on the field but in volunteering to help others. We have participated in Relay for Life and sponsored a Play for the Cure Play Day. I believe this gives us an opportunity to impact the students and provide lifelong lessons that will serve them well."

In August 2018, 15 Walker's field hockey players and three chaperones traveled together to the Adirondacks for three days of hiking, canoeing, white water rafting and bonding together as a team. The girls also had the opportunity to meet with Erin Hamlin, four-time Olympian and bronze medalist in luge, and hear about her road to success.
Mimi Duran has 30 years of coaching experience, both in independent and public schools. She began her tenure at Walker's in fall 2007 leading an aggressive field hockey effort, winning seven CISAC League titles, six CISAC Tournament titles, and the Class C WNEPSAC Championship title in 2010, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Her teams have appeared in the NEPSCA Field Hockey Tournament in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Mimi most recently worked as varsity field hockey coach at Cheshire High School where her team was a finalist in the State Tournament. Prior to that, she was coach at Wamogo High School in Litchfield, CT. While coaching at Wamogo, her teams made six CIAC semi-final appearances, and won six Berkshire League Championships. Mimi is a Coach of the Year recipient from both CHSCA and CFHCA. She is a NFHCA 200 Victory Club Award recipient, and has been selected to membership in the New Agenda: Northeast Women's Hall of Fame. In 2015, Mimi was inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame.
Mimi holds a Connecticut coaching certification, Level 2 United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) coaching certification, and is a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (USFHA), the Connecticut Field Hockey Coaches Association, and a USFHA "future's coach." Mimi has taken nine teams to the National Field Hockey Festival and has traveled with her teams to play in Europe and South America. Several of her former players have earned Founders All-League, WNEPASFH and NEPSAC Field Hockey recognition, Regional All-American recognition, NFHCA All–Academic recognition and have played Division I, II and III field hockey at the collegiate level. Several alumnae have pursued coaching and currently coach at the high school level.
In addition to her coaching duties, Mimi Duran is assistant athletic director.
