“Hi, my name is Amber! I joined Walkers in eighth grade as a boarding student. Being a Cicerone is important because it gives me the opportunity to share the amazing experiences that the Walker’s community has given me with prospective students and families. When I first toured Walker’s, the Cicerone who gave me my tour helped me feel connected to the school and I aim to give that feeling back to other prospective students!”
My favorite part about being a boarder is getting to spend time with my friends and dorm parents after study hall and on the weekends. I look forward to hanging out with my friends in the common room and watching shows and playing board games. Being a boarder I feel very connected to campus and it makes school feel like my second home.
The biggest benefit from attending Walker’s is the small class sizes. By having a lower amount of students in every class, you get to build a connection with your teacher and the material you are learning. It has also helped me find my own voice inside the classroom because I have the support from my classmates and teachers.
I have grown in many way since joining Walker’s especially in my academic confidence. I use to be afraid of participating in classroom discussions, but the encouragement that I get from my teachers has helped overcome this fear. I have now started taking honors classes and I am continuing to grow in all different ways.
