“Hello! I joined the Walker’s community in ninth grade. Since then, this environment has transformed me more than I could have ever envisioned. I aim to share Walker’s spirit and warmth to help others connect with what I believe is the best school for one to become their best self.”
My favorite part about being a boarder is the deeper connections I form – the dorm is truly a second home. I love the spontaneous conversations when I pass people in the halls, the culture of knocking on doors for absolutely anything, and randomly watching shows or movies in the common areas. This is especially true for faculty members, who are always sparking interesting, deeper conversations.
My biggest advice is to not worry – I know, easier said than done. However, the best thing to do is be yourself, and if you are timid or introverted like I was, that is perfectly fine as long as you step out of your comfort zone from time to time because it’s those small moments – the small talk in an Abra’s line or in a dorm common room – that spark the connections that are strong enough to last a lifetime.
My favorite thing to do in my free time is spend time with others. During the warmer seasons, this means sitting under a tree facing the mountains, playing music on low, and stuffing ourselves with food while talking about anything and everything. During the colder seasons, this means cuddling together with blankets and watching movies or channeling our inner chefs to make some desserts!
