Ruthann’s commitment to her sport was evident through her remarkable drive and determination to excel in the ring. Ruthann was also a dedicated student and community member at Walker’s, as shown through her participation in the Riding Club, English Club, Spanish Club, and Art Club.

A top-ranking equitation rider, Ruthann earned numerous awards. At Walker’s, she received the “Sonny Boy” Trophy in 1978 and the “Good Head, Good Hands, Good Heart” award in both 1978 and 1979. During her junior year, Ruthann competed in the 1978 ASPCA Maclay National Finals at Madison Square Garden and earned the title of Reserve Champion — an exceptional accomplishment in one of the country’s most prestigious junior equitation championships. Following her graduation from Walker’s in 1980, Ruthann returned to the Maclay Finals and claimed the national championship title, a testament to her continued dedication and excellence in the sport. During college, she also taught equitation and hunters to junior, amateur, and adult amateur level riders.

When asked about the impact riding has had on her life and her career in finance, Ruthann reflects, “I think [riding] taught me how much work it takes to be really good at something.”
