Involvement: Dance, Squash, Head of Bollywood Dance Club, Co-Head of Asian Student Collective, Peer Tutor, Writing Fellow, Smith Dorm Proctor, Cicerone
“Hi! My name is Sara, and I’m a boarding student from Ellington, Connecticut. I chose to be a Cicerone because they can have a huge impact on your impression of the school. I know that personally, I only realized I wanted to go to Walker’s after taking a campus tour, since I was able to experience what Walker’s was like in person. Therefore, as a Cicerone myself, I aim to show prospective families the diverse, accepting, and loving nature of our Walker’s community that I love so much.”
My favorite class is the Honors Research Seminar: From Microbes to Molecules because we are in lab each week, so we get the chance to learn unique lab skills which are usually not taught until college.
A unique experience I’ve had at Walker’s that I didn’t think I’d be involved in is being a part of the squash program. From not knowing what squash was when I first arrived, it is now what I most look forward to during the day.
My favorite part of my typical day at Walker’s is going to squash practice.
My favorite part about being a boarder is that I get to sleep in when I have a free block first thing in the morning.
I would give the advice of stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new. Not only is it a good way to find things that you’re actually passionate about, but it’s also a great way to meet new people and make new friends when you’re new.
I think the biggest benefit of attending Walker’s is the relationships you develop with your teachers and other community members. Before attending Walker’s, I had a hard time going to teachers when I was struggling and needed help. The Walker’s community is exceptionally supportive and I feel more than comfortable going to either my advisor, dorm parents, or teachers for anything.
Since my first day at Walker’s, I feel like I have grown in so many ways, not only academically but also mentally and emotionally. In addition to my grades rising due to the smaller classes and support from teachers, I also learned to not be so hard on myself when it came to academics or sports.
I think Walker’s has prepared me for the future by teaching my how to balance my workload with other extracurricular activities, and by helping me enhance my public speaking skills.
My favorite thing to do during my free time is to listen to music loudly in my room or to play with my dogs when I am home.
