Game Summary

Still without our regular goalkeeper, Walker’s turned to Jenna Morrell ’23 to fill in for what is always a difficult and physical game against Kingswood Oxford. From moment one Walker’s passing game was disrupted by a physical KO side who outmuscled the team in the early stages of the game and sent long diagonal balls over the defense for willing KO runners. Walker’s quickly went one down to a dubious ‘not-offside’ call and a smart finish from a KO striker. Walker’s were getting back into the game physically challenging for every ball when KO scored from an uncontested corner to send walker’s into half-time 2-0 down. Determined to compete in the second half Walker’s moved the ball quicker and largely matched KO’s physicality resulting in long stretches of possession in KO’s half. Well worked short passing moves and shots from Susana Alonso, Lauren Krupnikoff ’23 and Gabi Valinho ’21 were all well saved by KO’s keeper until KO effectively killed the game off with a goal through the center of Walker’s defence after the officials failed to spot a handball in the lead up to the goal. Walker’s continued to push to get something out of the game but ultimately came up short-handed. It was a disappointing game but one in which Walker’s played some of its best soccer this season.
