October 23, 2020 All day
Each year in the fall, the entire Walker’s community participates in Mountain Day to celebrate the successful start of the school year. Most years, Mountain Day is a tightly kept secret until the day before. This year due to the additional planning needed, we are announcing that this year’s Mountain Day will take place on Friday, October 23 beginning with breakfast in Abra’s from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
In order to keep the groups small in compliance with state mandates, all in-person students will attend off-campus hikes at local trails by grade; seniors, PGs and eighth grade students will keep the tradition alive by hiking Talcott Mountain. Students will be transported by bus and seated physically distant from each other. Bus trips will be under 15 minutes and the windows on the buses will remain open during the trips.
After the hikes, a school-wide BBQ lunch will be served followed by afternoon co-curriculars, including study hall for Middle School students. Community members will then gather outside for dinner and our annual PEP rally organized by the Ethel Walker Athletic Council (EWAC). Upper and Middle School day students should depart campus by 7:30 p.m. Questions about the day should be directed to the Dean of Students Office at 860-408-4237.
All locations are in Simsbury:
- Middle School (6 and 7) – Great Pond Loop
- Eighth Grade – Talcott Mountain
- Ninth Grade – Town Forest Trail
- Tenth Grade – Stratton Forest
- Eleventh Grade – Penwood State Park
- Seniors and PGs – Talcott Mountain
