Game Summary

Veteran coach Katie Keogh-Hice’s Chesire Cat’s were ready and waiting for us this past Saturday with their speedy attacking combo of Reese Purdy 21′ and Jadyn Reilly PG’. With the sun beating down on the turf both teams began in earnest with the ball moving quickly from end to end of the pitch. Once again we were able to get down the flanks and put pressure on Chesire’s GK Brie Bavaro 20′ but to no avail. After each save Bavaro’s punt was a danger as Purdy and Reilly would put on the jets and sprint for goal hoping for the ball to slip through. 15 minutes into the first Ellery Finn 18′ was the first to get scoring going as she ran to the far post onto a V Garcia 18′ cross from the right side and pushed it past Chesire’s Bavaro. Just 5 minutes later Elise Namnoum 19′ thundered a shot off the crossbar that would have put us up and in the driver’s seat. However, at the midway mark we brought down Purdy in the box to give up a PK and see the score go to 1-1. Just 10 minutes later Chesire went up 2-1. It was Purdy again who dashed down the right side on a solo counter attack where she avoided three of our defenders and got in the box to go 1v1 vs. Reagan Kerecz 20′ where she slotted it by her to see Chesire into halftime up 2-1. Down but not out we lined up ready to play and pass the ball, letting it do the work for us. Alaina Vermilya 20′, Kaitlyn Suller 22′, Bones Dunn 20′, Amanda Gould 19′ gave it all they had the entire half working through Chesire’s long clearances and mad dashes to break through by Reilly. The Smith sisters 19′, Nora Griffiths 21′, Ava Strohmeyer 21′, and Anneliese Sonju 21′ banged it out with Chesire’s attack to turn the tide and finally see us rewarded for our hard work when Kaitlyn Suller 22′ picked up a loose ball at Chesire’s 18 and layed it off to V Garcia 18′ who then struck a perfectly placed shot into the net to knot the score 2-2 with under 10 minutes left. It was pure pandemonium from there with both teams giving all they had trying to get the game winner. We had one last chance when Liz Roach 18′ played the ball across the 6 to Ellery Finn 18′ who lifted it past Chesire’s Bavaro but over the bar. And so it ended at 2-2, and we move onto Marianapolis this Wednesday. Thanks to all that traveled to see us play! Hope you can come Wednesday!
