vs. The MacDuffie School
September 11, 2019 @ 11:00 am
The Walker’s Varsity Soccer team opened up the 2019 season on the road today with a 5-2 win over Class C rival MacDuffie.
Liv Webster ’21 notched her first career goal for Walker’s early in the first half. Ava Strohmeyer ’21 slotted a pass to Webster who beat a MacDuffie defender before beating the keeper with a shot to the back post. Shortly thereafter MacDuffie drew even with when a free kick was awarded and MacDuffie made the most of it with a shot that went over everyone’s head and settled in the back of the net.
Walker’s took a 2-1 lead into the half after Webster tallied her second goal of the half when Senior Jessica Caiaze ’21 played a well weighted ball into Webster’s feet who shot from about 20 yards out and beat the MacDuffie keeper again.
The second half opened with Alaina Vermilya ’20 giving her team a 3-1 lead. Webster was once again in the mix driving at the MacDuffie backline before playing a ball into Vermiya’s feet. Using a deft 1st touch that put her behind the backline, Vermilya scored what would prove to be the game winning goal with a well placed shot to the MacDuffie keepers right.
MacDuffie was awarded a penalty kick that led to their 2nd goal on a shot that just escaped the outstretched hands of Senior goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz ’20.
Vermilya scored her 2nd and 3rd goals of the game off of passes off of passes from Webster and Allie Dowd ’23.
The team is back in action on Saturday, September 14th, with their home opener vs. class C opponent Greens Farm Academy.
