Game Summary

Again! Rain, rain, rain right before a match making conditions for our game vs. Canterbury wet and slick. It looked promising for us as we were able to put Canterbury’s defense under strong pressure in the first 5 minutes. Canterbury did well to get out of their defensive third and at the seven minute mark made us pay for not marking on the back post leaving one of their forwards open to collect a pass across the goal mouth and leaving Reagan Kerecz 20′ no real chance to make a save. Understandably frustrated we collected our selves and worked to connect to feet and play in behind the Canterbury back four. Amanda Gould 19′ and Ava Strohmeyer 21′ worked to combine and triangulate with Lizzy Strapp 21′ and Elise Namnoum 19′, but our first touch was not on, and we forfeited too many balls to Canterbury, who then looked to play forward quickly. Coming out of the first half still down 0-1 it was push time. Caroline Smith 19′ worked tirelessly in the second half to push forward to give us extra punch in the attack and support Nora Griffiths 21′, and Alaina Vermilya 20′. Despite our struggles with first touch we were able to possess the ball for the lion’s share of the half and mount multiple threats on Canterbury’s goal only to be denied by their keeper pulling off some excellent saves. Give credit to Canterbury who were tough in defending, and tireless in their counter attacks. Regardless, the 80 minute mark saw pure frustration as we had nothing to show for our play. That is soccer, we need to deal with it, and push on to Gunnery Saturday, see you there!
