Game Summary

Class A stalwarts Kent came to play today, and we despite controlling a good run of the play, we paid the price for losing concentration for a moment. Right from the whistle we were aggressively tracking down the ball, and denying Kent space to play the ball. Alaina Vermilya 20′ and Claudia Luciani 21′ combined to work passing combinations between themselves and create threats in the goal area. However, we were slow to pull the trigger and Kent’s defensive line was able get back behind the ball and repel our attack. Still maintaining pressure on Kent at the 30 minute mark, we lost possession on the right side at midfield. We failed to provide weak side defensive cover as a perfect ball was played into the middle to the feet of a sprinting Kent player. Without hesitation she ran by our flat defensive line and placed it home for the lead. Still pushing to break Kent down we were able to get wide with Lizzy Strapp 21′ and Elise Namnoum 19′ who played balls into the middle to force Kent’s keeper to come off her line. Jessica Caize 21′, Brooke Delorey 20′ came in to provide attacking pressure and did well to give team spark and play the simple pass to allow us to play the ball forward. Reagan Kerecz 20′ came through again to keep us in it with two great saves that were fun to watch. Coming out 0-1 at half we knew we needed to up the level of intensity. We did that, and with 20 minutes left we moved to three defenders to go for the goal. From there we had the run of play, and plenty of chances on goal, but were unable to convert anything. Even up until the last thirty seconds we played a beautiful corner into the box were we headed it wide of the Kent goal only to see our opportunity pass and feel the sting of dropping a game we felt we could have won. Credit to Kent who were strong and did a solid job of getting compact in the box and pressuring the ball. We move forward though, we’ll be at training on today working to prepare for Berkshire on Wednesday.
