DESCRIPTION:Not Just Survivable\, But Beautiful: Forging a Way for All to Flourish\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Karenna Gore and a panel of experts as they discuss justice\, climate change\, ecology\, sustainability\, human need\, oceans\, food security\, and faith. This event is open to the public. \n\n\n\nKarenna Gore is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Earth Ethics at Union Theological Seminary in New York. Karenna formed CEE in 2015 to address the moral and spiritual dimensions of the climate crisis. Working at the intersection of faith\, ethics\, and ecology\, she guides the Center’s public programs\, educational initiatives\, and movement-building. She also is an ex officio faculty member of Columbia University’s Earth Institute. A graduate of Harvard College\, Karenna earned her law degree from Columbia Law School and a master’s in social ethics from Union Theological Seminary. DESCRIPTION:Mahogany L. Browne\, our fall Visiting Writer\, will be on campus on November 7-11. We welcome the Walker’s community\, as well as the general public\, to attend a reading with Ms. Browne on Friday\, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Ferguson Theatre. Refreshments and book signing to follow. \n\n\n\nMahogany L. Browne\, selected as Kennedy Center’s Next 50 and Wesleyan’s 2022-23 Distinguished Writer-in-Residence\, is the Executive Director of JustMedia\, Artistic Director of Urban Word\, a writer\, playwright\, organizer\, and educator. Browne has received fellowships from Arts for Justice\, Air Serenbe\, Cave Canem\, Poets House\, Mellon Research\, and Rauschenberg. She is the author of recent works: Vinyl Moon\, Chlorine Sky\, Woke: A Young Poets Call to Justice\, Woke Baby\, and Black Girl Magic. Founder of the diverse lit initiative Woke Baby Book Fair\, Browne’s latest poetry collection Chrome Valley is a promissory note to survival and available from Norton Spring 2023. As she readies for her stage debut of Chlorine Sky at Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago\, Illinois\, she drinks coffee while living in Brooklyn\, NY. She is the first ever poet-in-residence at Lincoln Center. \n\n\n\nThe Ethel Walker School Visiting Writer Seminar is a semester-long course in which students have the rare and special opportunity to immerse themselves in a study of one writer’s works\, something few students of English at the undergraduate and graduate levels experience. Throughout the semester\, students read a critical mass of texts by that writer\, developing a deep and abiding knowledge of that writer’s style\, form(s)\, and ideas. The course culminates with a visit by the author to Walker’s. Through master classes\, writing workshops\, and readings to the community\, students are invited to ask the questions that only the author can answer. At the end of each semester\, students in the Visiting Writer Seminar collaborate on a final project in which they conceptualize\, layout\, design\, and publish a class anthology of works\, inspired by the writings of the visiting writer.

SUMMARY:Reading and Book Signing with Ada Limón
DESCRIPTION:U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón\, our spring Visiting Writer\, will be on campus April 10-11. We welcome the Walker’s community\, as well as the general public\, to attend a reading with Ms. Limón on Monday\, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Ferguson Theatre. Refreshments and book signing to follow. Seating is limited and by reservation only. Masks are required for all audience members at this event. \n\n\n\n\nreserve seats\n\n\n\n\nAda Limón is the author of six books of poetry\, including The Carrying\, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry. Her book Bright Dead Things was nominated for the National Book Award\, the National Book Critics Circle Award\, and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. Her work has been supported most recently by a Guggenheim Fellowship. She was the host of the critically-acclaimed poetry podcast\, The Slowdown. She grew up in Sonoma\, California and now lives in Lexington\, Kentucky where she writes and teaches remotely. Her new book of poetry\, The Hurting Kind\, is out now from Milkweed Editions. She is the 24th Poet Laureate of The United States. \n\n\n\nThe Ethel Walker School Visiting Writer Seminar is a semester-long course in which students have the rare and special opportunity to immerse themselves in a study of one writer’s works\, something few students of English at the undergraduate and graduate levels experience. Throughout the semester\, students read a critical mass of texts by that writer\, developing a deep and abiding knowledge of that writer’s style\, form(s)\, and ideas. The course culminates with a visit by the author to Walker’s. Through master classes\, writing workshops\, and readings to the community\, students are invited to ask the questions that only the author can answer. At the end of each semester\, students in the Visiting Writer Seminar collaborate on a final project in which they conceptualize\, layout\, design\, and publish a class anthology of works\, inspired by the writings of the visiting writer.
