SUMMARY:Reading and Book Signing with Ada Limón
DESCRIPTION:U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón\, our spring Visiting Writer\, will be on campus April 10-11. We welcome the Walker’s community\, as well as the general public\, to attend a reading with Ms. Limón on Monday\, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Ferguson Theatre. Refreshments and book signing to follow. Seating is limited and by reservation only. Masks are required for all audience members at this event. \n\n\n\n\nreserve seats\n\n\n\n\nAda Limón is the author of six books of poetry\, including The Carrying\, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry. Her book Bright Dead Things was nominated for the National Book Award\, the National Book Critics Circle Award\, and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. Her work has been supported most recently by a Guggenheim Fellowship. She was the host of the critically-acclaimed poetry podcast\, The Slowdown. She grew up in Sonoma\, California and now lives in Lexington\, Kentucky where she writes and teaches remotely. Her new book of poetry\, The Hurting Kind\, is out now from Milkweed Editions. She is the 24th Poet Laureate of The United States. \n\n\n\nThe Ethel Walker School Visiting Writer Seminar is a semester-long course in which students have the rare and special opportunity to immerse themselves in a study of one writer’s works\, something few students of English at the undergraduate and graduate levels experience. Throughout the semester\, students read a critical mass of texts by that writer\, developing a deep and abiding knowledge of that writer’s style\, form(s)\, and ideas. The course culminates with a visit by the author to Walker’s. Through master classes\, writing workshops\, and readings to the community\, students are invited to ask the questions that only the author can answer. At the end of each semester\, students in the Visiting Writer Seminar collaborate on a final project in which they conceptualize\, layout\, design\, and publish a class anthology of works\, inspired by the writings of the visiting writer.

DESCRIPTION:Succeeding with Your Financial aid applications\n\n\n\nPaul is founder of College Money Method\, a financial education service focused on helping students and families with college affordability and the financial aid process. A graduate of Harvard and MIT\, his passion for this work stems from his own experience going through the process alone as a first-generation college student. \n\n\n\nIn partnership with Miami-Dade and Broward School Districts — the nation’s 4th and 6th largest respectively — Paul has recorded district-wide trainings for counselors and workshops for students on financial aid and paying for college. He works with 20 independent schools nationwide to offer his curriculum and individual advising to students of diverse economic backgrounds.
