DESCRIPTION:Carmen Giménez\, our spring Visiting Writer\, will be on campus March 26-29. We welcome the Walker’s community\, as well as the general public\, to attend a reading with Ms. Giménez on Thursday\, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Ferguson Theatre. Refreshments and book signing to follow. \n\n\n\nThe Ethel Walker School Visiting Writer Seminar is a semester-long course in which students have the rare and special opportunity to immerse themselves in a study of one writer’s works\, something few students of English at the undergraduate and graduate levels experience. Throughout the semester\, students read a critical mass of texts by that writer\, developing a deep and abiding knowledge of that writer’s style\, form(s)\, and ideas. The course culminates with a visit by the author to Walker’s. Through master classes\, writing workshops\, and readings to the community\, students are invited to ask the questions that only the author can answer. At the end of each semester\, students in the Visiting Writer Seminar collaborate on a final project in which they conceptualize\, layout\, design\, and publish a class anthology of works\, inspired by the writings of the visiting writer.

DESCRIPTION:The next session of our year-long speaker series titled Understanding the Whole Child: A Walker’s Parent Education Series will be devoted to Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Support. Research shows that parent involvement is a key component of effective prevention. Children whose parents talk to them about alcohol and other drugs are less likely to use them. Parents can play a unique and positive role in keeping young people drug-free during adolescence and in supporting their school’s prevention efforts. DESCRIPTION:Please join the Walker’s community on September 30 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. for a reading\, book signing\, and a wine and cheese reception with author and Walker’s alumna Mary Melvin Fleming ‘75. We will gather in the Constance Lavino Bell ’48 Library on The Ethel Walker School campus. \n\n\n\nOriginally from Chicago\, Mary graduated from Walker’s in 1975 and moved to Paris in 1981\, where she worked as a freelance journalist and consultant before turning full-time to writing fiction. Her novel Someone Else was published in 2014 and The Art of Regret in 2019. A new novel\, Civilisation Française\, was recently released this July. Also a talented photographer\, Mary chronicles her French life between Paris and the Perche (Normandy) in the photo essay A Paris-Perche Diary. DESCRIPTION:The Ethel Walker School proudly announces the opening of our new eco-friendly residence hall! \n\n\n\nWe are excited to unveil our latest achievement: a three-story\, environmentally-conscious residence hall. This innovative building features 36 dorm rooms and four apartments\, accommodating 54 students and four faculty members and their families.
