Middle School Debate Team Results
Walker's Middle School Debate Team has been working since February on the motion, "This House believes that nuclear power should be expanded for civilian use." On May 9, the team spent all day in Zoom breakout rooms arguing that motion. They had to prepare and argue both sides of the debate. Over 100 middle school debaters took part in this first online tournament for middle school students in Connecticut.
Congratulations to team captain Kayce Campurciani '24, who placed 19th in the Open division and led her team including Carly Wilkes '26 and Sophie Lawry '25 to a 1-2 record. This was Carly's and Sophie's first debate in the open division.
The team of Charlotte Furia '25, Nellie Kenney '25 and Zaria St. Clair '25 also did extremely well. Their record was 2-1. Charlotte placed 8th overall (her first top ten finish), Nellie was 11th and Zaria was 22nd.
Our novice team consisted of Ruby Dawson '25 (19th place in the novice group), Alessandra LeGeyt '26 and Val Lawson '25. They did not win any this time, but they had some very close matches.
We are so proud of the hard work these girls put in for months to prepare and the way they represented Walker's.
