Alum Spotlight: Caroline Smith ’19

Caroline Smith

Alumna Caroline Smith reflects on her participation in Walker’s athletics and how it has shaped her college experience at Haverford College, PA. Caroline has recently completed her freshman year playing squash.

Caroline shares, “My first season playing squash for Haverford College was terrific! I immediately felt the contagious energy on the team to play for each other and was lucky enough to spend countless hours with that team on and off the court.

Looking back on Walker’s athletics, I recognize how lucky I was to be able to begin my journey playing squash in such a supportive environment. Each season I was on very different teams that had their own quirky traits, but each carried that same Walker’s enthusiasm for being the underdog, doing something big, and having a blast while doing it.

Some of my best memories about being a part of Walker’s athletics included cheering in the stands for our basketball team during the championships, singing Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it off’ on the way home from a game, and perfect days on the fields and courts when our team fell into a wonderful rhythm.

Although COVID-19 may have put a temporary halt to the normal life of Walker’s athletes, I would encourage them to dig into the connections they have built with their teams and coaches to look for support and to begin to look forward to the next big challenge that lays ahead of them on the fields in the fall.”
