Game Summary

Once again we were playing in the heat wave gripping the region when we hit the field vs. coach Su DelGuercio’s Berkshire team. Her strong and organized team stepped up against our forwards Elise Namnoum 19′, Aliana Vermilya 20′, and Liz Roach 18′ not yielding space to turn. However 5 minutes in we were able to get free on the edge of the penalty area and get a shot off that sailed over Berkshire’s goalie Ava Bartell 20′, hit the crossbar, and then hit Bartell. Amazingly Bartell, a Simsbury native, was able to turn, grab the ball and make the save! Berkshire’s WWNEPSSA all star midfielder Lexi Fortune 19′ was a constant threat whenever she picked up the ball in the midfield and dribbled forward. Weaving through traffic she was able to thread ball through to her forwards to put pressure on our back four of Maise Smith 19′, Caroline Smith 19′, Anneliese Sonju 21′, and Ava Strohmeyer 21′. Berkshire’s Mikayla McEwen 18′ was consistently hanging around the middle of the pitch picking up passes and battling it out with our #6 Amanda Gould 19′. Ellery Finn 18′ was ever dangerous on the right side creating multiple chances for us in the box that we just could not put away or placed right at Berkshire’s Bartell. Returning from halftime with a 0-0 score Veronica Garcia 19′, Kaitlyn Suller 22′, and Lizzy Strapp 21′ resolved to breakthrough Berkshire’s defense with combination play and quick switch play. However, Berkshire’s Ariana Laba 20′, and Maddie DeVost 19′ were tough in defense consistently thwarting our flank play and multiple serves into the box. It came down to the last 10 seconds with Berkshire having a corner kick. With the ball driven into the box with just 5 seconds left it was hold your breath time… and then breathe deep as Reagan Kerecz 20′ led the defense to effectively clear the ball away and see the match through to a 0-0 tie. Next we play KO…today!
