Game Summary

On Wednesday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team traveled to Wallingford for a Founder’s League matchup against Choate Rosemary Hall. After a couple of good scoring chances for Walker’s did not result in goals, Choate responded with two goals before halftime and held on late for a 3-1 victory.

Choate’s first goal of the game came in the 19th minute on a quick transition goal and then the Wild Boards scored again six minutes before halftime to take a two-goal lead. Emma Mazur ’27 made four first-half saves for Walker’s – and finished the day with seven – in her 11th start of the season.

Walker’s would finally get on the scoreboard with about 14 minutes remaining. Maddie Marsele ’29 played a one-time clearance over the top and Hanna Keller ’30 challenged for the ball that was deflected off of Choate’s defender into the path of Esther Asamoah ’28. Asamoah recorded her 10th goal of the season after the dribbled around the goalkeeper on the breakaway to cut Choate’s lead in half.

During the next 10 minutes of the game, Walker’s created chances and held the momentum but they did not score. Choate took advantage of missed opportunities and put the game out of reach when they scored with about 90 seconds remaining in the contest.

Walker’s will return to action on Saturday, Oct 17th when they host Hopkins for a 12:00 kick-off as part of Family Weekend. It will be the first meeting between the two programs in a WWNEPSSA Class B contest.
