Game Summary

The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team went on the road on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Greenwich Country Day School to take on the Tigers in a WWNEPSSA Class B contest. After a scoreless first half, Walker’s recorded the first goal of the game eight minutes after the break. The hosts would come from behind though to score twice and then held on for a 2-1 victory.

Sawyar Fleming ’28 put the Wildcats in the lead with her second goal of the season. Esther Asamoah ’28 recorded the assist after Melia Belden ’27, Bayliegh T. ’31 and Stella-Rose Lecompte ’27 worked hard to win the ball back and switched it to Asamoah.

Five minutes later, the Tigers tied the game when a long free kick slipped through the Walker’s defense and the finished on a breakaway. The would score the game-winner eight minutes later after they stole the ball in the midfield and transitioned on the counter attack well.

On the day, GCDS outshot Walker’s 11-9 while Walker’s had six corner kicks in comparison to just one for the hosts. Emma Mazur ’27 recorded four saves in the net for the Wildcats.

Walker’s has just 48 hours before they return to action when they travel to Suffield Academy to take on those Tigers in another WWNEPSSA Class B contest. Kick-off is schedule on Monday for 4:45.
