Game Summary

It was hot. It was very hot! Our trip to class A opponent Kent saw game time temperatures reach the upper 80’s. Both teams began the first half looking to find a rhythm and opportunity to put one in the net. Early on both Elise Namnoum 19′ and Kaitlyn Suller 22′ were active on the right offensive third and able to fire off at least three dangerous services into the box that Kent goalkeeper Carly Denora 18′ was able to pick off. Midway through the first half Veronica Garcia 19′ got free and found the end of a serve into the box and hit a shot that bounced off the left post, went across the goal mouth and bounced off the right post where it was snatched up once again by Kent’s Denora. A scary moment after that as Kent was able to get by on the flank and play a drive a hard cross that travelled along Reagan Kerecz’s 6 yard box. Luckily it eluded the onrushing Kent forwards until Anneliese Sonju 21′ was able to clear it. Play continued in Kent’s defensive third for most of the remaining time in the first half, but to no avail, and the score was 0-0 at half. The temperature seemed to rise even more in the second half, and both teams would feel it’s effects. Substitutions were frequent and rapid. As the gaps opened up in the mid third Alania Vermilya 20′ was able to check back, receive the ball, turn, take the space and then play some very dangerous through balls to Ellery Finn 18′, and Liz Roach 18′. The Smith sisters 19′, Ava Strohmeyer 21′, Anneliese Sonju 21′, and Amanda Gould 19′ were steady defensively and held off Kent’s quick counters until we were able to break through. With 15 minutes left Veronica Garcia 19′ got free on the right side, and played another hard cross into the area. Kent’s Denora was there once again in traffic to step up on the cross, but she bobbled and dropped it. Elise Namnoum 19′ was there where she was supposed to be and slammed the loose ball home to give us the lead. With both teams’ gas tanks on fumes, the play took a hurried pace up and back right up until the final horn. This Wednesday we travel to Berkshire, see you there!
