Game Summary
On Saturday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team traveled to Farmington to take on Miss Porter’s School in a Founder’s League contest. The home side came away with a 3-0 win to keep their spot at the top of the league table.
Emma Mazur ’27 opened the game for Walker’s with a huge save on a breakaway and then thwarted a corner kick to keep Porter’s at bay. Walker’s had a chance at the other end in the fifth minute when Jazmine Restituyo ’27 found herself at the top of the penalty box. The game’s first goal came in the 20th minute when Porter’s was first to a rebound on the back post for the eventual game-winning goal. Porter’s doubled their advantage two minutes later when they broke through on their left side of the offense.
In the second half, Caroline Hayes ’27, Emily Sanchez ’26, Ayden Riendeau ’26 and Maya Atwood ’26 kept Porter’s from creating many clear-cut chances and Mazur made six saves to finish with nine on the day. With just under six minutes remaining, Gisselle Peña ’26 stole a ball at the top of box and missed the top right corner by inches. Porter’s put the game out of reach moments later to make it 3-0 with just over five minutes on the clock.
Walker’s will play their next game at home when they host Worcester Academy on Wednesday, October 29th. Worcester and Porter’s met in the 2024 NEPSAC Class A Final with Worcester winning the championship. Kickoff on Wednesday is scheduled for 3:30.
