Game Summary

On Wednesday afternoon, Walker’s varsity soccer team took to the road as they traveled east for a league contest against Pomfret. Walker’s scored in the 12th minute and held on for a 1-0 win – their first shutout of the season.
On the day, the visitors held most of the possession and outshot Pomfret 12-7, forcing the home team’s goalie into six saves. Jenna Hamel ’25 recorded her first shutout of the season in the net for the Wildcats recording five saves on the day, including a full reach down to her left in the waning minutes.
In the 12th minute of the contest, Sophie Martinelli ’25 sprung a ball out wide to the left flank, where Martha O’Donnell ’23 was first to it and crossed into the box. Ayden Riendeau ’26 got a touch and flicked it into the path of Lucie Martinelli ’27, who scored her sixth goal of the season. She now has six goals and four assists this fall. For Riendeau, it was her team-leading fifth assist of the season.
Sarah Shaw ’23 and Maya Atwood ’28 held firm in the center of the backline, while outside backs Kayla Whalen ’25 and Marlo Meador ’25 were integral in Walker’s build-up play and keeping the shutout defensively.
Walker’s will return to action when they travel back to the northeast corner of the state on Saturday, October 22. They will take on Marianapolis for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off.
