Game Summary

On Monday afternoon, the Walker’s varsity soccer team traveled to Suffield Academy to take on the reigning NEPSAC Class B Champions. The game stayed scoreless through the first half of play, and Walker’s took the lead early in the second half. Suffield responded with two goals in nine minutes to come away with a 2-1 victory.
Walker’s played the hosts tight through the first 40 minutes of play, with Suffield leading in shots 7-6 and forcing Jenna Hamel ’25 into two saves. Her first save of the game came on a point-blank effort from Suffield’s center forward less than two minutes into the contest.
In the second half, the visitors continued to put Suffield on the back foot and scored four minutes after the break. Maya Atwood ’26 made a great interception in the back and immediately found Ayden Riendeau ’26, who one-touched it to Lucie Martinelli ’27. Martinelli attacked the space and then played a long ball into the corner, which Riendeau ran down. Her effort earned the Wildcats their first corner of the game. Martinelli took it and curled it straight into the back post for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Walker’s kept their one-goal advantage for 16 minutes before Suffield tied the game with 20 minutes remaining. Suffield won a free kick near midfield and tied the game after it bounced around the box, and their midfielder was first to the rebound. Nine minutes later, they would take the lead for good with a great individual effort by their center forward.
Walker’s now sits at 2-3 on the season and will host Canterbury on Wednesday, October 5. The game is set to kick off in Simsbury at 3:00 p.m.
