Game Summary

It was a great Fall evening for soccer. The weather held for a warm night, Suffield’s turf field gave ample space to knock the ball, and just as the kick off whistle blew the lights came on…game time! There was a feeling in the air for this game, and both teams brought what they had right from the start. We looked composed and were determined to possess the ball the in order to play forward whenever possible. Suffield surrendered nothing and where aggressive for every loose ball on their home field. Maise Smith 19′, Caroline Smith 19′, Julia Luciani 20′, and Aneliese Sonju 21′ were under constant threat of Suffield’s efforts to play the ball behind them or to the weak side. We were able to go around the back and have some patience to get the ball to Ava Strohmeyer 21′ and Amanda Gould 19’s feet in the midfield. Stuck on the left side with Elise Namnoum 19′ for a spell, we were finally able to get the ball outside to the opposite side to Lizzy Strapp 21′ who was able to open up the game for us. Suffield’s height and speed were evident as they were able to grab our errant passes and immediately get them to the feet of their talented striker Lily Caso 19′. Claudia Luciani 21′ and Aliana Vermilya 20′ worked hard to get give depth to our attack against a tough Suffield defense anchored by Rose Caso 19′. After a hard fought and high paced first half play ended at 0-0. The second half saw the same pace start right up again, and Brooke Delory 20′, Illi Grossman 22′, and Jessica Caize 21′ were all called upon to help in keeping the team’s legs as we shifted into a more defensive posture. Mid way through the first half Nora Griffiths 21′ ran onto a wonderfully played through ball from Alania Vermilya 20′ and put herself 1v1 vs Suffield’s goalkeeper. Nora hit a dipping strike from 20 yards out that forced Suffield’s goalkeepr to fully extend to her left and parry it away inches from the goal. Reagan Kerecz 20′ was steller in net as she was on the end of every Suffield shot and right back up for more. Resolute defending was the theme as we worked to contain Suffield’s flanking runs, and tough midfield play. The tension was high at the 74 minute mark when we failed to relieve pressure in our goal area and Suffield was able to get behind a shot and place it home for the lead. Never say die it was as we rallied back to create pressure on Suffield’s goal area right up until the final whistle. A hard fought game, and a tough result given the effort expended right up until the end, but that is how soccer is. Back to it Tuesday for training, and another match on Wednesday vs. Canterbury, here we go!
