vs. The Frederick Gunn School

Game Summary

Ethel Walker won against the Frederick Gunn School in an exciting home opener on Saturday, September 19th. Walker’s won in five sets: 25-10, 22-25, 25-13, 19-25, and 15-12. Libero Rachel Lui ‘27, and defensive specialist Lana Jones ‘27, were out on injury. Walker’s opened on a strong start. Right side hitter Andzelina Paliulyte ‘28, had four kills. In the second set, setter Ashley Fontanella ‘29, had a five-point serving run, including three aces. Middle hitter Asia Alston ‘28, led the offense with four blocks and three kills. Although Walker’s and Frederick Gunn were tied for much of the set, Gunn pulled ahead to take the second set. In the third set, Walker’s had a bit of a rough start, but pushed through and came back swinging. Middle hitter Bella Dmowski ‘29, had five kills and five blocks, and outside hitter Yihan Chen ‘26, had four kills. In the fourth set, Walker’s struggled with serve-receive in the beginning of the set, and despite a great comeback in the later part of the set, they were unable to close the gap. In the fifth set, Walker’s had a bit of a slow start with some service errors. However, the team never gave up, and came back from being down five points to winning the final set. Layla Galindez-Adams ‘30, had a seven point serving run that helped win Walker’s the victory. Maddie Stirt ‘27, led the defense with 23 digs. It was a great start to the season, and the team is excited for what comes next.
