Four School Records Shattered at Final Virtual Meet

On Thursday, March 18, seniors Claire Shemo ’21 and Daphne Peterson ’21 were recognized at the final swim meet of the season against Hotchkiss.

The Walker’s swim team found great success in this official virtual meet. In the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay combination of Kylie Donaldson ’23, Lucia Morales ’25, Amelia Peterson ’23, and captain Daphne Peterson ’21, the team took more than two seconds off the previous record set at New England Championships last March. Their time of 1:59.00 replaced the 2:01.66 NEPSAC Bronze medal team of Charlotte Furia ’25, Lucia, Daphne, and Izzy O’Donnell ’20.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Amelia Peterson ’24 finished with a 59.97, shaving .01 off the previous record held by Daphne, set in January 2020.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Daphne led off the ‘A’ relay, with a split of 26.11, replacing Sara Lomba ’16’s previous 50-yard freestyle record of 26.37 set in 2016.

In the 100 backstroke, Daphne raced to a 1:02.70, finishing over three seconds faster than her previous best time for the school, set in February of 2020.

“It is incredible to see this type of success in one of the most challenging seasons and years that these athletes have faced,” said Varsity Swim Coach and Athletic Director Kati Eggert. “We are proud to see their hard work pay off. Their times reflect their dedication to the sport and to the short but impactful time spent with their team this winter. Congratulations are in order and we are proud of all of them!”
