Swim Team Earns Scholar Recognition

Walker’s twelve varsity Upper School swimmers have been honored as a National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) Bronze Level Scholar team. The NISCA/SwimOutlet.com Scholar Team Award recognizes teams achieving high academic standards. The award is based on the average cumulative GPA of an entire varsity team of 12 or more athletes. The 2019-2020 team finished with a GPA of 3.495, easily qualifying them within the 3.200-3.499 range.

This is the first time that Walker’s has been named a Scholar team since the program’s inception in 2013. There were many firsts this year, as Walker’s team was named Finalists at the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Division III Champions. One Walker’s swimmer was given the Grace Robertson Award, issued to one female athlete of the meet. Walker’s swimmers were named All-NEPSAC and NEPSAC Honorable Mention and medaled at the Founders League Championship. Throughout the season, several new school records were set.

“Among all of these great accomplishments, this was a group of girls who cared for each other and stayed focused,” said Head Coach Kati Eggert. “They focused on their work and they focused on each other. The coaching staff knew the team was special when our attendance at practice proved consistent. That consistency paid off in the water, and their efforts were reflected in the results in the pool and the classroom. We also have a young talented crop of contributing Middle School students who will continue to add athletic and scholastic strength to the program.”

Congratulations to the Upper School varsity members:
Seniors: Jane (Letian) Li*, Izzy (Isabel) O’Donnell*, and Emmy (Emily) Vitali*
Juniors: Sophia Botero, and Daphne Peterson
Sophomores: Asha Haug, Ana Hunt, and Allison Wall
Freshwomen: Liyan Du, Alexia Grech, Natalie Stewart, and Katherine Tang
