Walker’s Basketball Ranked 5th Seed in NEPSAC Tournament

March 3, 2020

For the second year in a row and the fifth time in ten years, Walker’s varsity basketball team will compete for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C Tournament title. Walker’s earned the fifth seed in the tournament which begins Wednesday, March 3. The team also qualified for the tournament in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2019. The team advanced from the quarterfinals to the semifinals in three of those years. The top eight teams in New England from each of the six classes qualify to play in the tournament.

This is the second time the four senior members on the team, Jelly Frigo, Hannah Iwaszkiewicz, Kay Lawlor and Regan Kerecz, have competed in the tournament. The team is coached by Head Coach John Monagan and Assistant Coach Nathaniel Johnson.

“We’ve played a tough schedule this year and lost some close games to quality opponents” said Monagan. “We hope that a senior-led group playing these types of games will pay dividends in the postseason. We’re going to be tested right away, though, as Greens Farms has a great team this year.”

Walker’s will take on #4 seed Greens Farms Academy in the first round. The game starts at 4:00 p.m. at the Greens Farms campus in Westport, Connecticut.
