On Saturday, February 24, Walker’s equestrian team traveled to Oak Meadow Farm in East Windsor to compete against 13 other teams in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Zone 1 Region 8 Semi-Finals. All team members rode very well against intense competition, earning the high school team 39 points and the title of Regional Champion.

Laurel Gaddis ’18, Isabel Lardner ’18 and Hannah Theriault ’20 each scored seven points for the team with their wins in the varsity open and intermediate classes. Alexis Berard ’19 earned five points in the novice flat class with her second place finish. Other points were scored by members of the Walker’s equestrian community program. Amy Xia ’21 ended the day with five more points in the beginner flat class to earn us the win.

Walker’s middle school team also rode well, finishing third against some tough competition. Kaila James ’24 won her cross rail class and placed third in her individual fences class, while Bejay Mugo ’22 was fourth over fences and second on the flat.

Finally, Walker’s horse Runicco “Kroon” was awarded “Horse of the Region” for the second year in a row by popular vote of all the coaches.

This qualifies the team for Zone Finals at the end of March. Congratulations!
