Varsity Basketball Coach John Monagan has earned his 200th win at Walker’s. The team defeated Greenwich Country Day School on January 21, 2026 with a score of 77–40, marking an incredible milestone in Coach Monagan’s 18-year coaching career. His dedication to the game and to this program is truly unmatched.
Reflecting on the achievement, Coach Monagan shared, “The most rewarding part about achieving a mark like this is that I’ve been able to do it all at one place. I’ve had the great fortune of coaching some amazing kids and had the ability to see them grow as both basketball players and as people during their time at Walker’s. They’ve helped to create such great memories for me on the basketball court, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
Assistant Head of School for Athletics, Co-Curriculars, and Equestrian Brett Benzio added, “200 wins is a remarkable milestone, but what truly defines this achievement is the leadership behind it. John has built this program around a player-centered culture rooted in teamwork, growth, and joy. While the wins are impressive, his greatest impact is reflected in the lives of the student-athletes who have come through his program. Those lasting influences are the true victories, creating a shared bond among everyone who has had the privilege to play for John and contribute to this milestone.”
