On Thursday, February 16, seventh grader BeJay Mugo ’22 participated in Jumoke Academy’s second annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. City Wide Oratory Contest. The topic for this year’s contest was “Preserving the Legacy,” which offered students an opportunity to share their personal connection to the legacy of Dr. King.

BeJay shared a moving and inspirational piece on how she perseveres as a young woman of color in a world full of stereotypes. BeJay’s delivery and content was so phenomenal that she won first place for the sixth through eighth grade grouping and took with her a giant trophy, a $500 prize and lots of praise and accolades.

Congratulations, BeJay!
