Blog: Habitat for Humanity Trip 2026

Walker’s is back in Seguin, Texas, partnering with Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity! Each March, students spend spring break helping build affordable homes for families in the area. Follow along for daily updates.

Day 1

Today we woke up bright and early to get driven to Bradley International Airport! After a quick layover in Minneapolis we got to San Antonio. We stopped at Panera Bread before checking into our AMAZING Airbnb. We explored and tanned until it was time to go to Walmart to pick up groceries. After shopping for all of our food we came back to the Airbnb. We ended the day with dinner made by Ms. Thacker and Ms. Wall and made smore’s over the grill!

Day 2

On Day 2, we all made our own bagged lunches and breakfast in the morning to prepare for the day, then headed to the Natural Bridge Cavern at 9 a.m. to have a tour at 10:40 a.m. We walked through the cave and had an amazing time! After our tour finished, we spent some time in the gift shops before eating lunch. We then drove to San Antonio for the river walk! We browsed shops and sights along the walk and then got to experience the river boat tour where we learned about the rich history of Texas. Towards the end our day, we went for a Walmart run to pick up a few needed supplies and returned to the Airbnb. Liesel and Emmyt made a wonderful pasta dinner and we ended the night with some night swimming and a movie!

– Grace and Shyanne

Day 3

Day 3 was our first day doing volunteer work for Habitat! We started the day by learning safety protocols and then got to work sealing the house with caulk and painting the trim. After working, Violet and Shy made homemade pizzas as dinner for the group, which were delicious. We then went to Gruene’s dance hall which had live music, and then went to get ice cream after!

Day 4

Today we all woke up at 6:00 a.m. to get Dutch Bros before getting on site. We all ordered our drinks and got on the road back to Seguin. At the site, we painted almost all day and had sandwiches for lunch. Afterward we headed to Tipsy Cow to get sweatshirts and some much needed ice cream. The day concluded with different groups tanning, swimming in the pool, napping, and cooking! We had garlic parmesan pasta for dinner, smore’s over the fire for dessert, and a quick pickleball match to end the night.

Day 5

It was day five in Texas and our group had another great work day! We started our day leaving the house at 7:15 a.m. and began painting the worksite house as soon as we arrived. We spent the majority of our work day putting first and second coats of paint on the house and the trim. At lunch time we were delivered Kirby’s chicken tenders and fries through Habitat and had a great lunch. After lunch, the group split up and a few of us cleaned the inside of the house: sweeping, collecting trash, placing counters, etc, and the rest of the group started and finished painting the shed. Overall, the painting and outside work on the house was completed and prepared for the women’s build on Saturday! After work, the group took the time to rest and hangout at the house. We ended the day with a great breakfast for dinner made by Joon and Charlotte.

Day 6

On day six we went to a different worksite located in San Antonio. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by other amazing workers and got straight to painting and caulking a house similar to the one we worked on in Seguin. The weather was a little humid, cloudy, with a slight drizzle. For lunch we had pizza, chips, and fruit! We finished work with two coats of paint on the right side and one on the left. We then traveled back to the Airbnb where a couple of us took a nap and some of us relaxed on the pickle ball courts in the sun! Grace and Liv made tacos for dinner and then we all traveled to watch an amazing competition at the rodeo stadium. Lastly, we traveled back to the Airbnb, watched a movie, and went to bed.

– Candy and Violet

Day 7

Today was the Women Build! We woke up at 6 a.m., reached the build site at 7:30 a.m., and had breakfast at the site. The staff of Habitat for Humanity gave a message, the mayor of Seguin spoke, and we received a shoutout for all of our hard work! Then, the building began; We split up into large groups to tackle landscaping, the house interior, and building walls. We worked from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and it was really cool to see all of the women in the program working together to get the job done, and done well! We all worked mostly on laying sod for the lawn, and it was very satisfying to watch the lawn slowly come to life! We all got attacked by fire ants, but we pushed through. Afterwards, we walked through Gruene, New Braunfels and shopped, as well as listened to live country music. Finally, we all went back to the Airbnb for dinner, movies, and to pack.
