Senior Brianna Duba of Harwinton was named as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Player of the Month in Connecticut for November. The NFHCA awards a player of the month in each state throughout the year. The player is nominated and chosen by five representatives from the organization’s board. In the history of the honor, no Walker’s player has ever received this distinction.

Duba, a captain on the varsity team this fall, helped bring her team to the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Championships. In the three tournament games, she recorded two game-winning goals, one each in the quarterfinals and semifinals. She totalled five goals in six games in the month of November.

Walker’s Athletic Director John Monagan said, “This is a huge honor for Brianna as she joins just eight other high school student-athletes from across the country who were chosen from their state for the month of November. She brings all of her skill and leadership to every game and sets the example on how be a strategic player.”

Head Coach Mimi Duran said, “It is not typical to see a defender get this type of recognition. As a starting defender, Brianna contributed all over the field, defensively and offensively, and lead our team in tournament scoring and throughout the entire season.”
