Chloe Miller ’19 of Avon has been selected as the 2019 US Lacrosse Jackie Pitts award winner for the State of Connecticut for her lacrosse involvement and contributions to the game, school and community.
The Jackie Pitts Award is given annually to a senior varsity member who is a starter or significant contributor to the team. Chloe was nominated by Walker’s interim head lacrosse coach Dee Stephan. “Chloe has not only helped with every Walker’s Lacrosse event over the years but she has also been a steady coach in the Avon Youth Lacrosse program,” Stephan said. “Chloe has served as assistant coach to the developmental girls (K-2) and also the Bantam level girls, reaching just about every young girl in the town of Avon. Chloe has also reffed for a number of years and has always given back to the programs that have given her so much.”
Former associate head of school, Amy Wheeler, was Chloe’s academic advisor. “Chloe loves lacrosse and works hard every day to improve her skills,” Wheeler said. “As a student, Chloe is smart, capable and cares about doing well. The younger students looked up to Chloe for her work ethic and groundedness. Chloe added a lot to The Ethel Walker School community.”
The Jackie Pitts Award “recognizes a senior player in each area who goes above and beyond in service to her team, school and community. An athlete, who truly honors the game of lacrosse, is invested in the development of the game in her community and is an exemplary member of her team. This player exemplifies the fundamentals of lacrosse, works hard to improve her game and exemplifies the spirit of the game both on and off the field.
