Game Summary

On Wednesday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team earned their first win of the season when they traveled to Hotchkiss for a Founder’s League contest. The game was scoreless through the opening half of play, but Walker’s scored the lone goal of the game eight minutes into the second half to earn the win.

Before halftime, the visitors had created more opportunities, but Hotchkiss’s goalkeeper was up to the challenge. She made two great saves from close range at her near post to keep the game scoreless. At the other end of the action, the Bearcats rattled a shot off the crossbar on a transition from a defensive corner kick.

In the 48th minute, Jani Weber ’26 broke the deadlock when she was first to a diagonal through ball from Gisselle Peña ’26. Weber, went around the goalie and after a deflection, she touched the ball into the net for her first goal of the season. On the day, Walker’s allowed only four shots on goal as Emma Mazur ’27 recorded the shutout in the net. The Wildcats created five corners in the game and numerous opportunities throughout the second half to put the game out of reach, but it was not until the scoreboard sounded – as Hotchkiss was on the attack – that the victory was truly secure.

This is the second year in a row Walker’s earned their first win of the season against Hotchkiss after a come-from-behind 3-2 win in 2024. They now hold a 1-1 record this fall and will play another Founder’s League contest on Saturday when they travel to Kent. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30.
