Game Summary

On Saturday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team traveled to Watertown to take on The Taft School in Founder’s League action. The teams were tied at the half, but Walker’s earned a 1-0 victory with a second-half goal scored with 23 minutes remaining.

In the opening 40 minutes, Walker’s created multiple chances and outshot the Rhinos 9-5 forcing Taft’s goalie into four saves. In the second half, the visitors opened the half with energy and pressure and their work paid off when Gisselle Peña ’26 dribbled toward the top of the box. A tacked deflected toward Melia Belden ’27 sho slotted the ball into Peña’s path who slipped the ball into the bottom right corner for the lead. For Peña, it was the third time she has scored against the Rhinos in three appearances against them.

Throughout the rest of the contest, Walker’s continued to stay steady defensively ad Caroline Hayes ’27, Emily Sanchez ’26, Maya Atwood ’26 and Maddie Marsele ’29 did well in front of Emma Mazur ’27. On the day, Mazur recorded seven saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

Walker’s now holds a 10-5 record on the season and secured a fifth place spot in the Founder’s League standings for the second year in a row. They have two regular season games left this fall with Williston Northampton next on the schedule for Wednesday, November 5th on Senior Day.
