Game Summary

Saturday was what it is all about in regards to high school soccer. A sunny cool crisp Fall day, a beautiful setting at The Taft School, a superb soccer pitch, fans backing both teams, and a very strong opponent in coach Rob Madden’s class A Big Red. Looking to make an impact early we looked to play into forwards Liz Roach 18′, Ellery Finn 18′, and Elise Namnoum’s 19′ feet and possess in Taft’s defensive third. Taft’s back four led by captain Juliana Yamin 18′ made the task a tall order by stepping up quickly and denying our passes into our forwards’ feet. Taft got on the scoreboard early as we failed to organize and track in the penalty area and Taft’s Patience Kum 21′ got free in our goal box and was able to push the ball past our Reagan Kerecz 20′. We were able to build up from our defensive to mid third through V Garcia 18′, Amanda Gould 19′, Kaitlyn Suller 22′, Bones Dunn 20′, and Alaina Vermilya 20′, but beyond that we struggled to combine and retain possession due to Taft’s constant pressure on the ball in the midfield led by Taft’s captain Kristin Manfreda 18′. As a result we saw ourselves go into halftime trailing 0-1. We committed as a team to moving to the ball and playing to feet in the second half. Unfortunately we were not able to realize our goal, as a result we found ourselves on our heels defending Taft’s quick counters. Maise Smith 19′, Caroline Smith 19′, Anneliese Sonju 21′, Ava Strohmeyer 21′, Nora Griffiths 21′, and Gaby Garcia 19′ worked to repulse Taft’s attacks. Reagan Kerecz 20′ was outstanding, especially her touch save over the bar off a laser by Taft’s Emili Adami 19′. In the end Taft put home two more goals to go up 3-0, and despite our struggles to play our game we never stopped giving 100% effort to breakthrough to play our game. It’s back to work Monday afternoon to prepare for Wednesday’s match vs. Miss Hall’s, hope to see you there!
