Game Summary
On Wednesday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team earned a 7-3 victory when they hosted Berkshire School in WWNEPSSA Class B action. On the season, Walker’s is now 3-3.
In the opening 90 seconds, Stella-Rose Lecompte ’27 added to her strong season as she scored the opening goal of the contest. After a great pass from Caroline Hayes ’27 found Lily Devine ’27 across the back, Devine found Lecompte in behind the defense and she slotted home on a breakaway into the bottom right corner. The one-goal lead would last for less than three minutes as the Bears bounced back and ripped a shot from near midfield that went just under the crossbar.
In about the 25th minute, Julia Coviello ’29 was fouled near midfield and then Hayes played. along ball into the box on the free kick. After the first bounce, Esther Asamoah ’28 jumped in front of the goalie and flicked it over her outstretched arms to give Walker’s a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the day. Hayes recorded another assist on the third goal of the day for Walker’s she played a long ball over the top for Lecompte. Lecompte’s first touch went around the goalie and then she slotted it into the back of the net for her second of the day.
With about three minutes left in the first half, Hayes made it 4-1 when she headed home what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Bayliegh T. ’31 hit a corner kick and Hayes was first to it to give Walker’s a three-goal cushion going into the break.
Just three minutes into the second half, Asamoah scored her second of the day and fifth of the season to make it 5-1. A big switch of the field by Bayliegh T. found Melia Belden at the left side of the penalty box. She found Asamoah who dribbled across the box and then found the inside of the left corner. Lecompte would add the sixth of the day for Walker’s as she completed her second hat-trick of the season. She now has seven goals in six games this fall. Amelia Hamel ’28 recorded her first point of the season when she held the ball on the flank and found Lecompte in the middle of the field.
After two late goals from the Bears to bring the score to within three, Jazmine Restituyo ’27 scored her second goal in as many games to finish off the scoring for the day. Julia Coviello ’29 recorded the assist and Restituyo held off her defender and finished one-time inside the upper part of the near post.
Walker’s will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Greenwich Country Day School to take on the Tigers in another WWNEPSSA Class B contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
